Today, we joined colleagues from across the sector for an inspiring and thought-provoking conference focused on SEND, inclusion and the power of belonging.

The day began in spectacular fashion as pupils from Boundary Primary School took to the stage, delivering a joyful and uplifting choral performance. Their confidence, enthusiasm and talent shone through, setting the perfect tone for a day centred on celebrating children and young people.

Throughout the conference, keynote speakers challenged us to reflect on our own practice and consider what more we can do, both individually and collectively as a Local Authority, to remove barriers and improve outcomes for every child.

We even stepped outside our comfort zones, writing moving and poignant haiku poems that captured the emotions and experiences associated with transition. There was also an opportunity to explore a range of inspiring stalls, including one showcasing the talents and achievements of students from Highfurlong School.

Some of the most powerful messages came from those with lived experience. We heard from a young man whose journey, supported by Blackpool FC, has led him into further education. Parents spoke passionately about the life-changing importance of safety, acceptance and belonging, reminding us that when children feel valued, understood and included, they are able to flourish.

We were proud to hear Amy from Educational Diversity share the transformative impact of reintegration work and the difference it continues to make for children and families. Hearing from a former pupil brought home just how powerful this work can be and reinforced why we remain so committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

The day concluded with an emotional and inspiring message from Kath at Boundary School. Her reflections on empathy, collaboration, patience, partnership, multi-agency working and never giving up on a child resonated deeply with everyone in the room. Her words served as a powerful reminder that inclusion is not simply a strategy or an initiative; it is a commitment that must underpin everything we do.

We left feeling inspired, proud and energised. Proud of the incredible work taking place across our schools and communities, but equally determined to keep learning, keep improving and keep children and families at the heart of everything we do. Together, we can continue to create communities where every child feels they belong and has the opportunity to thrive.
